What made you want to work for Sova?
The opportunity to give people a second chance. I started with Sova as a volunteer, so knew that the staff were a warm, friendly and caring team and was keen to work with a diverse client base.
What do you enjoy about working for Sova?
Making a positive difference to someone’s life and being able to use my own life experience and skills to support them, is highly rewarding – it’s good to feel valued.
How do you feel the work you do benefits those you work with?
Person-centered mentoring makes a huge difference to my client group - raising confidence and self-esteem levels, providing careers information, advice and guidance, giving clients options and allowing them to make informed decisions, providing opportunities, offering a listening ear, and providing practical, emotional and financial support to overcome barriers to engagement – each individual component can have a big impact on an individual.
What qualities do you need to do your job effectively?
Good communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, an empathetic approach, being non-judgmental, a warm, friendly personality and the ability to work with various professionals as part of a multi-agency team.
If you could tell people about the work you do, or the impact Sova has, what would you say?
Sova goes the extra 10 miles to support people and help them reach their full potential.
