Sova Humberside, Lincolnshire & North Yorkshire CRC Mentoring Project

Sova are providing an adult male offender mentoring service for Humberside, Lincolnshire & North Yorkshire (HLNY) Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) based in Hull, Lincoln & York and the surrounding areas. The project assists the CRC’s Case Managers in improving the quality of offenders' lives, helping them to access services and to reduce re-offending.

Sova are recruiting and training volunteer mentors to be matched with service users who are referred for support by HLNY Case Managers.  Mentors will typically meet their service user in the community, however, the relationship can start whilst the service user is in prison with continued support through the gate.  Sova HLNY Mentoring works to address the multiple barriers faced by our client group.  Experience has shown us that for people to recognise potential in themselves and steer clear of crime, they need to believe they can make good decisions. They need the support of someone from their community.

Volunteer mentors are recruited, trained and supervised so that they can provide tailored mentoring support to enable and empower the service user to overcome barriers.  Mentors may need to support service users with a number of issues including finding work or education, housing, debt solutions, completing forms, substance abuse and much more.  It is a privileged, challenging, varied and rewarding role.
