SOVA - Volunteers

Volunteers

Volunteers are central to all of SOVA's work. Many of our projects have a team of volunteers who engage with and support the clients. SOVA welcomes volunteers from the local community.

Before applying to become a volunteer, please find the project nearest to you and use the link at the bottom of the project page to complete the Volunteer Application Request form.

If you already know the project that you wish to apply to, please complete the Volunteer Application Request form.

There are a number of stages to becoming a SOVA volunteer:
  • Application form
  • Interview
  • Criminal Records Bureau check
  • accredited training
  • post-course interview
SOVA volunteers receive:
  • support and supervision from local staff
  • expenses
  • additional training
As a SOVA volunteer you might be supporting offenders, vulnerable young people, unemployed, refugees, substance mis-users, the homeless. A volunteer might engage with a participant in the community, in prison, at their place of work or at one of SOVA's centres.

Clients' needs vary considerably but as a volunteer you may be expected to help with:
  • filling in forms
  • basic skills
  • preparing for an interview
  • housing
  • debt
  • life skills
SOVA hopes that volunteers will dedicate 4 hours a week to each mentee assigned for at least six months.
