Commitment: Minimum four hours a month

Opportunity detail:

Children/young people living in care may be placed miles from home with little or no contact with their birth family. They may experience feelings of isolation and low self-esteem. Meeting with their child/young person monthly, the independent visitor provides the opportunity for the child to spend quality time with a person independent of all other services, gradually a trusting companionship develops as the volunteer becomes a positive role model, offering stability and continuity in what can sometimes be a very unstable lifestyle, ultimately leading to improved self-esteem for the child/young person.

We train and carefully match our volunteers with children/young people with similar interests.  Full on-going support and supervision is provided by staff and volunteers have regular opportunities to meet with other independent visitors in their area to share experiences and ideas.
