Sova Norfolk Mentoring provides fully trained volunteers in the community to support individuals with identified substance misuse behaviour as part of a wider behaviour change service across Norfolk.

Commitment: 2 hours per week

Opportunity detail:

Our volunteers provide specialised practical behaviour change interventions through community mentoring, enabling individuals to tackle problems, build confidence, integrate into their community and reduce risk of harm and ongoing substance misuse.

Volunteers support individuals through community detox, social isolation and to improved living skills. We also support those who are not ready to engage with the wider service, encouraging engagement and raising awareness of the impact their substance misuse may have on themselves, their families and the wider community.

Our volunteers are given an opportunity to build on skills to support their learning, give back to their community and gain an understanding of the barriers and stigma associated with substance misuse including alcohol, opiate and non-opiate use. Sova offer all our volunteers training, ongoing support and supervision as well as working as part of a team with other mentors; volunteers will also work closely with other professionals across the service.
