This page describes the categories of work carried out by SOVA projects. Note that projects will often work within more than one of the categories described, as well as outside of them. On this Page:
ETEThese projects work in the area of Employment, Training and Education with participants who may be offenders, young people, young offenders or other. The participant may or may not be matched with a volunteer mentor. Young People (YPM)These projects work with young people matching them with a volunteer mentor. The young person may be an offender or at risk of offending. Young people may be referred by Social Services, Leaving Care Teams, YOTs, or self-referring or other. The young person and mentor will work on a variety of issues depending on the need of the young person. Young People (YO)These projects work with Young Offenders. The work may be in partnership with Youth Offending Teams delivering services around Reparation and Mediation and Restorative Justice, providing the young offender with a mentor, providing the young offender with a volunteer Appropriate Adult and other services. The young person may or may not chose to have a volunteer mentor. Offender ResettlementThese projects usually work together with Probation and Prisons to meet the multiple needs of offenders leaving custody and resettling into the community. The offender may or may not chose to work with a volunteer mentor from the same community into which they are resettling. The offender and volunteer mentor work on task specific issues depending on the needs of the individual participant. |
