The Young London project, funded by London Councils and Jack Petchey, was set up in October 2008 and became fully operational in terms of beneficiary delivery in December 2008. The whole project has the capacity to work with young people between 11 and 25 years who are socially excluded or disadvantaged within SOVAs four main hubs of operation namely Bexley, Camden, Croydon and Ealing.
The Aims and objectives of the project are as follows:
To increase the number of young people on the path to success by reducing the percentage of NEET 16-18 year olds and reduce the number of first time entrants into the Criminal Justice System.
To promote participation with positive activities, offer activities which provide an opportunity for the young people to develop their skills and to assist the young people in achieving their goals by signposting them to external agencies.
To develop a sense of belonging within the local community.
To provide an opportunity for young people to participate in and influence decisions within their locality whilst becoming more involved in cultural activities.
The outcomes for the yp from these projects have been:
 Accredited Peer Mentoring Programme
Development of a DVD project using music as a tool to convey messages warning other yp about the dangers of drink and drug abuse.
Development of a drama, communicated through the medium of film aiming to highlight the issues and subsequent consequences of yp from various backgrounds and sectors of society being involved in the Criminal Justice System. A launch event to promote this film was hosted by the young people who took part.
Future projects may include:
