To recruit, train and support volunteer mentors and to then match those volunteers with
young people identified as “at risk” that have been referred to SOVA. The
Mentoring Service provides opportunities for young people to be matched with a
trained volunteer, who acts as a role model to that young person with an aim to
build resilience and self confidence in the young person. During mentoring the
young person will be engaged in positive use of their leisure time and be given
the opportunity to develop new interests and broaden their experiences.
E-Mentoring
To recruit, train and support volunteers to engage with young people by using E-mail to
provide mentoring services. To provide young people with there own mentor who
they can connect with them over e-mail to talk about issues in their lives and
receive support and encouragement. To maintain and moderate forums for young
people to post contributions for group discussions about the challenges they can
face in their lives.

- Evaluation of SOVA Nottingham Mentoring Service - 2011-03-24
In this evaluation report our intention is to offer useful learning to the range of people and organisations responsible for commissioning, delivering and overseeing children!s services in Nottingham.
| | | | | | Final Evaluation Report... SOVA Nottingham Mentoring Service has been working
with young people aged 8-12 years providing mentors as part of the city’s Early
Intervention Programme for some 21 months. Sadly, due to challenging financial
times the project has been decommissioned.
However, prior to the end of the service an
independent evaluation report was commissioned through “What Really Matters” to
identify good practice and opportunities where learning can be taken to help
shape the way we work with young people and their families.
A focussed service continues to operate in
Nottingham as a result of this work taking
referrals from the Nottingham Family Intervention Project.
