SOVA
mentors receive free training to provide support, general advice and guidance
with a range of issues including housing, benefits, employment, training,
education, health and family.
If you are interested in
becoming a volunteer all you have to do is contact staff at one of our local
offices who will discuss the project, your skills and experience and send you an
application form.
Once you have returned
your application form you will be interviewed and we will seek references and
conduct Criminal Records Bureau checks.
If you successfully pass the interview process you will undertake our
Agored Accredited Training package and enrolled on the accreditation
process. Once the training is
completed you will be matched to a project participant from your local community
so that you can start providing support to them.
As a SOVA volunteer
mentor we will ensure you are provided with all the training and support to
fulfill your role.
You will be trained to
OCN Level 2, accredited in Mentoring and Core Skills. You will be supervised and supported by
the Newday SOVA MSS Volunteer Support Officers.
We will also meet with you to review your work and progress every 4-6
weeks. These supervision sessions
will give you the chance to identify training needs or highlight any additional
support you might need.
