At Sova Derby Priority Families we recruit, train and support community volunteers to provide one-to-one mentoring support to young people and families.

The Priority Families Mentoring Service is a joint initiative between Derby City Council and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. In addition to providing mentoring support to families in Derby City, families are offered a ‘Safe and Well’ check by community volunteers.

Sova recruit, train and support volunteers from the local community to work with our service users. We provide mentoring support to children and young people referred to us for support, and also ensure that the voice of children, young people and families is heard in relation to the decisions being made about them.

The volunteers and staff are also fully trained and guided by Derbyshire Fire Rescue Service in order to provide a ‘Safe and Well' intervention

My volunteer is that one person who was there just for me so I could talk to them and they would listen to me
