Working with ex- offenders who have requested individual mentor support from a Sova volunteer.

Working across three geographical areas (East Midlands, Yorkshire and Humberside, and the North East) Sova provide mentor support services for clients of the CFO3 (Co-Funding Organisation) resettlement programme.

The project aims to help offenders move towards social inclusion and mainstream provision by addressing their multiple barriers.

CFO3 clients who have requested mentoring support are referred by case managers to Sova.

Sova recruit and train volunteers so they are well prepared to take on the mentoring task. We then match those referred clients with an appropriately trained volunteer; ideally mentor and mentee will meet once a week.

Each person we work with is different; they will have a unique set of needs that mentoring support can assist with. It could be just needing someone to talk to about their problems, it could be more practical support; help with finding accommodation or employment, filling in forms, etc.

Our volunteer mentors need to take on a plethora of possible roles in order to provide support for their clients. And Sova staff are there to support them in these relationships through regular contact and supervision.

It can makes a real difference to an ex-offender to know they have someone who is prepared to help them in their own time.
