Message from CEO
Welcome to SOVA's website. I hope you find much here to interest you and
perhaps something to make you consider becoming one of our volunteers or
supporting us in some other way.
We live in difficult times. Our prisons are hopelessly overcrowded,
there is huge public concern about violence on our streets with young people,
sadly, often being both perpetrators and victims, unemployment may well become a major
issue again with economic downturn, and we still struggle to cope with refugees and asylum seekers.
A very negative picture! So the work SOVA does is absolutely vital.
We inject the positive into the lives of people who are socially or
economically excluded by their circumstances. We accept that in many
cases our clients' own behaviour has brought this about, but we believe that most people,
given a second chance and the opportunity to change will grasp that chance and turn their lives around.
If you don't believe me, read some of the client stories on this site!
Our volunteers are exceptional people [though I think they would deny this!];
they bring stability, reliability and hope to a group of people who may never
before have experienced this. They keep their promises, they do what they say they will do,
and they are not 'the authorities', a key factor in their relationships with clients.
I hope they feel 'job satisfaction' I believe they do. Maybe you could be a SOVA volunteer?
Please take time to browse the site, it tells you a lot about us.
However if you can't find what you are looking for or want to know more,
please use the contact facility and tell us what you want!
Gill Henson
Chief Executive.
