Lincoln Befrienders
This project was formed in 1994 as the Lincolnshire Befrienders
Project. Operating from two bases across Lincolnshire (Lincoln
and Stamford), the projectís primary task is to recruit,
select, train and support volunteer befrienders, who are matched
with vulnerable young people between the ages of 8 and 17 years
of age, referred by Lincolnshire Social Services Directorate
and considered to be in need or at risk of:-
-Family breakdown or who are estranged from their family
- At risk of offending
- Who are socially isolated - Not attending school
- Leaving care or have left the care system
Lincolnshire Reperation and Mentoring
The Lincolnshire Reparation Mentoring Scheme is offered to
young people aged between 10 and 17 who have completed a reparation
order and who wish to continue being mentored for up to a maximum
of 6 months. The young people are matched with a trained volunteer
who assists them in setting up and achieving goals to reduce
their chances of re-offending by:
- Encouraging a more constructive use of leisure time
- Developing existing skills and interests shown by the young
person
- Helping the young person to find out about benefits, housing,
employment opportunities etc and thereby empowering the young
person to make decisions.
- Offering practical help with the completion of forms, applications
etc
- Increasing self esteem and confidence by encouragement and
personal development.
- Offering practical help in finding details of local facilities
for young people and encouragement in their use.
- Providing a positive role model and reinforcing positive attitudes
Lincolnshire Appropriate Adults
The overall aim of the scheme is to provide Appropriate Adults
to young people who are undergoing Police And Criminal Evidence
(PACE) interviews with the Lincolnshire Police, whenever a parent
or guardian is unavailable The scheme achieves this through the
recruitment, selection and training of volunteer Appropriate
Adults.
Lincolnshire Reparation and Mediation Scheme
The Lincolnshire Reparation/Mediation Scheme is a partnership
between SOVA and the Lincolnshire Youth Offending Service. The
scheme provides reparation and victim/offender mediation programmes
for young offenders in line with reparation orders made by the
courts. The scheme offers programmes of group and individual
activities for participants that address issues of offending
behaviour and community reparation. The Lincolnshire Reparation
Scheme receives referrals from all 9 Lincolnshire Youth Courts
and matches the offenders with a trained mentor who supports
the young person in the completion of their reparation order.
