| The Director for SOVA Connect is Sophie Wilson |
Project aim: | Connect is a partnership which, between the four probation areas and prison service in the West of Midlands region, was established to improve the employment potential of short sentence prisoners.
Connect Probation staff attached to the project work across eight prisons in the region, whilst the two mentoring contractors are based in Birmingham and Redditch and cover geographically distinct areas; SOVA working across the West Midlands conurbation and Coventry, whilst YSS works in the surrounding counties.
SOVAs role is:
to recruit and train volunteers to OCN accredited standard
to maintain a suitable pool of mentors to support the needs of beneficiaries
to meet beneficiaries prior to release to help them engage with the project fully
to offer advice, support, and guidance on a one-to-one basis to beneficiaries in line with their individual action plans that are developed pre-release
The Connect Project exists to improve the economic prospects of short sentence offenders. It does this by addressing their needs based on the Seven Pathways to Reducing Offending model, offering pre- and post- release support to a group that is otherwise not served by the mainstream Prison and Probation services.
