Project aim: | The HIT programme at Deerbolt is a unique project working with young male offenders deemed to have a medium to high risk of re-offending.
The philosophy of the programme is to work with the prisoners in reducing their offending behaviour in a supportive and positive environment, by providing a pro-active structure to their extended day.
The programme aims to develop the skills and abilities necessary for positive resettlement and reduce the risks of re-offending.
The SOVA team work with every young male offender (aged 18-21 years), selected onto the programme and offer advice, guidance and support in relation Employment, Training and Education (ETE) opportunities after release. A maximum number of 66 young offenders for the programme based on one wing F wing.
The SOVA team also offer the provision of volunteer mentors to work with the young offenders both prior to and after release. This has the advantage of liaison with local community organisations including probation officers to ensure an all round support network on release.
The HIT programme also look at working with local companies/programmes to seek work placement opportunities for the young offenders, again to gain knowledge and experience prior to release.
A small team of 4 runs the SOVA project. The Project Manager, 2 Support Officers and an Administration Officer. SOVA work closely with the rest of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a complete programme for the prisoner.
