| Project aim: | The aim of the Project is to recruit, train and manage volunteers who can provide one- to- one mentoring support to people who are involved with the Community Justice Centre, specifically adult and young offenders.
The scheme will provide support to a range of people, young, old, male and female. Regular meetings will focus on the person�s needs and aspirations to give them support or guidance to achieve their potential.
The scheme more recently has been focusing its attention on guiding and supporting offenders/defendants into education, training and employment and also on the resettlement of offenders (post release) from Her Majesties Prisons.
SOVA mentors will give a few hours of their time each week to help with things like advice on local service provision, supporting participants into education, training and employment and just as importantly providing a listening ear.
Mentors are available to anyone who wishes to actively take part in the scheme, although the primary source of referrals is through the court.
The mentoring scheme is aimed at anyone who wants to make a positive change to his or her life, but feels they would benefit from the regular support and contact of a mentor.
The scheme also aims to provide volunteers with the opportunity to build their own skills and experience and receive accredited training to help their own employment prospects and increase their personal development.
