Sova Through the Gate

At Sova Through the Gate we find, train and support volunteer mentors to work with offenders across Hertfordshire who have a Class A drugs problem.

Our mentors support people as they get the help they need to stay away from drugs, to steer clear of crime and change their lives for the better. Each mentor offers a range of practical advice and emotional support to their offender, both in prison and when they are living in the community. From meeting people at the prison gate on release day, to dropping them off at detox or rehab appointments to offering advice on getting and keeping a job or finding a place to live, our mentors are there to offer reassurance, encouragement and above all a trusted friendly person to talk to.

All of our volunteers are given specialist drug intervention training, as well as Sova’s mentor training, and work closely with other professionals from drug workers to police and prison staff. Sova Through the Gate is funded by Hertfordshire County Council.
