Sova Camden Young People’s Mentoring Project
At the Sova Camden Young People’s Mentoring Project we find, train and support volunteer mentors to work with young offenders, and young people who are at risk of offending, to help them to stay out of trouble. Sometimes our mentors offer support and encourage with schoolwork or finding work experience or training courses.
Some young people need confidence and reassurance to get involved in sports or make new friends and for others their mentor is simply someone trusted and non-judgmental to talk to. Whatever the mentor does, it makes a real difference to a young person to know they have someone who is on their side, who has chosen to be there for them.
We ask our mentors to meet with their young person once a week, for between 1 and 4 hours, for at least 6 months. All volunteers receive full training and are supported by staff and at regular volunteer groups. The Sova Camden Young People’s Mentoring Project is funded by Camden Integrated Youth Support Service.
