Sova HMYOI Lancaster Farms Mentoring Project
At the Sova Mentoring Project we find, train and support volunteers to help young men from the Lancaster Farms Young Offenders Institution to steer clear of crime.
Our staff and volunteer mentors work with young men, both in prison and once they are released into in the community, to motivate, encourage and support them to make the right choices to keep out of trouble. Offenders often have a lot of respect and time for their mentors as they know they have chosen to give up their free time to help them. The young men really benefit from having someone they know is on their side. It helps them build the confidence, life skills and self-esteem they need to cope with life after release and change their own lives for the better. Offenders are also given the chance to become a peer mentor, using their own positive experiences of mentoring to help others to steer clear of crime.
All our volunteers are fully trained and supported to provide one to one and group support. The Sova Mentoring Project at HMYOI Lancaster Farms is funded by the J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust. For more information about volunteering with us, please contact Rebecca Bland at [email protected]
