Application Form Guidelines

Completing your application for a post at SOVA

The application form is made up of 4 parts for you to complete:
  • PART 1 - Personal details
  • PART 2 - Additional Information & Supporting Statement
  • DIVERSITY MONITORNG FORM
  • CRIMINAL CONVICTIONS SELF DECLARATION FORM

There is guidance below on how to complete each of these different parts, and how the information that you provide will be used. You will also find other documents with the form (as per the contents sheet) which you may find useful in assisting with your application or when deciding whether to apply for a SOVA post.

PART 1 - Please complete all sections fully. All personal details will be retained by the Human Resources Department and not disclosed to the panel.

PART 2 - Please complete all the additional information sections that are relevant to you. This will help the shortlisting panel determine whether you are suitable for the role. For your supporting statement, we recommend that you use the job description and person specification to highlight your competence, and the skills that you possess in relation to each specified areas. For example, if the person specification states that 'effective communication' is an essential criteria, consider the related context and convey to the panel what skills you possess which best demonstrate this area. You may wish to include a specific example.
You can continue your answer on a separate sheet(s) - please state your name and the title of the post you are applying for on each additional page.

DIVERSITY MONITORING FORM - We would be grateful if you would complete all sections of the form fully. SOVA is committed to a policy of eliminating discrimination from recruitment and selection practices. In order to monitor this policy and ensure that no direct or indirect discrimination is taking place, we require information which will be used solely for this purpose and will form no part of the interview process. All information will be treated in strict confidence. The sheet will be detached from your application form upon receipt and will be stored separately within the Human Resources Department. This information will be used for Equal Opportunities monitoring and statistical analysis only.

CRIMINAL CONVICTION SELF DECLARATION FORM - SOVA is committed to promoting equality of access, opportunity and employment. SOVA welcomes applications from ex-offenders and it is our policy that the sole valid criteria for employment are merit and experience. All applicants for each job will be considered equally on this basis. The Criminal Convictions Declaration form will only be considered after shortlisting has taken place for the particular post that you are applying for. The form will be destroyed at the end of the recruitment process by the Personnel Department.
Under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a conviction becomes spent after a certain amount of time and therefore does not need to always be disclosed. However, most posts with SOVA are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act as they are working with children or vulnerable adults - therefore for posts of this type, you may be required to disclose brief details of all previous convictions (spent and/or unspent) as part of your application, and a Criminal Records Bureau check will be required.
Please follow the guidance 'how to complete' on the form itself, and contact SOVA's HR Department if you have any queries or concerns.
SOVA welcomes applications from ex-offenders and only the most serious of offences and/or sentences completed less than a year ago may preclude you from becoming an employee of SOVA. Any individual banned from working with children or vulnerable adults will not be appointed.
