National Charity Sova hosts Multicultural Event in Bangor

Members of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities in Bangor have been invited to a   special Multicultural Event is being hosted the Sova Increasing BME Employment project this Thursday 25 October 2012.

“We work with a number of local people from BME communities supporting them to get work and stay in work,” explains Beata Galka, Project Manager, Sova Increasing BME Employment.  “There is a relatively small BME population in North Wales and some of them face many barriers to getting a job - like language skills or not having recognised qualifications.  We provide help with putting together CVs, applying for jobs and preparing for interviews.   We also help people improve their skills by exploring training and volunteering opportunities.

“Another thing we find with some of our clients is that many of them do not get the chance to socialize in a familiar setting and can therefore feel isolated and that’s why we have arranged our Multicultural Event.”

Combining speakers from the Welsh, Chinese and Iraqi communities, guests at the event will get the chance to learn about local culture as well as share their own experiences.  Beata says:  “There are few cultural events in Bangor and we want to give people the chance to learn more about each other’s cultures, meet new people, make friends and feel part of the local community.”
