Sova Job Deal - East
Working out a way back to work.
Sova Job Deal East includes the provision of both case management and volunteer mentoring.
On the case management side of the project, we help offenders from Cambridgeshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire, with a history of crimes, to get back into work and to steer clear of crime. The people we support have chaotic lives, often having been in and out of prison for many years or struggling with drug and alcohol dependencies.
We motivate, encourage and support each offender to get the skills, qualifications and confidence they need to find and keep a job. We offer advice on interview techniques and putting together CVs and disclosures, set up work or volunteer placements, as well as encouraging and supporting people who want to go to college or get some training. We also work closely with other specialist agencies to provide support on issues like housing, benefits and overcoming addiction whilst building their confidence and life skills.
On the mentoring branch, three volunteer co-ordinators recruit, train and support our volunteer mentors to help offenders to get back into employment, giving them a better chance of having a crime free life. The three volunteer co-ordinators are based in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Essex and provide mentors in the community and in custody.
Our mentors are there to motivate, encourage and support offenders to get the skills, qualifications and confidence they will need to find work. This could be by offering advice on attending interviews, putting together a CV, helping to find the right training or college course, assisting people at appointments or simply being there for reassurance and as a trusted person to talk to.
