Sova Thames Valley

At Sova Thames Valley we support 18-25 year olds on probation to steer clear of crime with the support of our trained volunteer mentors.

Working across Reading and Slough, Sova Thames Valley provides dedicated one-to-one support to help offenders in the community. We do this by recruiting, training and supervising a team of local volunteer mentors who help service users to make positive changes, make better decisions and steer clear of crime.

Volunteer mentors are matched to a service user and offer practical and emotional support. We aim to overcome the many barriers faced by offenders in the community, working towards the overall goal of reduced re-offending. For example, our volunteer mentors might support service users look for somewhere to live, help find and keep a job or develop new skills and achieve qualifications. Our volunteers encourage service users to seek any specialist support they need, for example with addiction.

Our experience of successfully supporting people known to Probation tells us that many of our service users have low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. Our trained volunteer mentors are skilled at empowering, motivating and encouraging service users.

Sova offers all volunteers enjoyable and interactive training, ongoing support, training and supervision.

If you are interested in supporting a young adult at this critical time in their lives please use one of the ‘become a Sova volunteer’ links at the bottom of this page.

Sova Thames Valley is being delivered as part of the ‘Community Mentoring’ services in conjunction with the Thames Valley Community Rehabilitation Company managed by MTC Novo.
