Volunteer Mentor - Sova Step Forward - W12

We are looking for volunteers to support adult men who are currently in London Resettlement Prisons and looking to create a better future for themselves free from crime. We work in partnership with the London CRC (Community Rehabilitation Company) with the aim of reducing re-offending upon release through mentoring.

The role of a Sova volunteer mentor is to build a goal focused relationship with a service user; aiming to support them to achieve measurable outcomes. Volunteers will support service users in the community, working in an empowering way to build confidence and self sufficiency.

Mentors are matched to a service user according to a variety of considerations such as skills or interests. The mentor will usually meet with the service user in custody and support the development of their personal action plan, meet with the service user on release and regularly meet in the community and attend reviews and a final exit meeting.

We will be working with service users leaving HMP Belmarsh, HMP Pentonville, HMP Brixton, HMP Wormwood Scrubs, HMP Thameside, HMP Wandsworth, HMP Downview, HMP Highpoint, HMP Highdown and HMP Onley. This means volunteering opportunities are available across London.

The role has an element of responsibility to report regularly to Sova on all meetings and contact as outlined by the project. Sova will provide full training that can be accredited, support and guidance throughout the role.

Time commitment:  4-8 hours per week
